I didnt care that they disobeyed the rules of cooking club and went out on a contrary limb. While 2020 has been a challenging year we have still managed to refurb our basement bar adding in a service bar and have opened our candlelit late night cocktail bar Underbelly. Starting out as a tiny ground floor bar with a large “hidden” basement we expanded 2 years later into the unit next door and continue to serve great beer, wine, charcuterie and cheese to the good people of Leeds. Older kids laughed and teased one another while playing soccer and basketball. Mason Park fills with people at the start of First Friday on Friday night. Live entertainment, cooking inspiration, shopping and tasting are at the heart of the BBC Good Food Shows each event has its own. If “happiness” and “community” merged, it would look and feel like Mason Park on Friday. There didn’t need to be a reason it just felt good. Everywhere one looked, there were smiles. It was the official launch of Evanston’s My City, Your City, Our City initiative, held in tandem with the summer’s inaugural First Friday event. An obstacle course, a bouncy house, soccer, basketball, bingo, movies, music, grilled hot dogs, pizza, chips and $300 worth of ice cream lured hundreds of people of all ages to Mason Park on Friday night, many of whom were wearing orange to call attention to Gun Violence Awareness Day.
